To shoot RAW with your Sony PXW-FS5 you need the CBKZ-FS5RIF (Sony FS RAW Output Upgrade License for PXW-FS5), the FS5 need to be on at least formware 2.0 – when writing this (feb2018) the latest firmware was FW4.02 – you can find the latest firmware here.
You also need a compatible recorder. A Convergent Design Odyssey or a Atomos Shogun series and a SDI cable. I use the Shape with angled connectors myself. When shooting/recording from the RAW output of the Sony PWX-FS5 you have the following options:
FS5 + Atomos Shogun Inferno or Shogun Flame you get:
- CinemaDNG RAW:
- 4K DCI/ 4K UHD at 24/25/30p
- 2K/1080p up to 120p
- RAW to ProRes/DNxHR:
- 4K DCI / 4K UHD up to 60p (30p in the Flame)
- 2K/1080p up to 240p
FS5 and the Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q+ you get CinemaDNG RAW or ProRes:
- DCI 4K (4,096 x 2,160) up to 60p
- DCI 4K bursts up to 120p // 4 second burst mode
- 2K (2,048 x 1,080) up to 240p
