Atomos keeps bringing out cool stuff. The latest addition is the Ninja V, 1″ thin, 11oz lite – 2.5cm thin, 320g lite. A stealthy, 5-inch, 4Kp60 10bit HDR daylight viewable 1000nit portable monitor/recorder.

It records over HDMI 2.0. Store edit-ready ProRes or DNxHR on affordable SSD drives and bypass your cameras internal compression and record time limits. A tiny 1TB AtomX SSDmini will give you 2.5 hrs of 4K recording. Unfortunately it has no SDI, so it will not record RAW. Rumours will know that a SDI version “could be added later”. Could via the expansion slot. See more below.

It is a welcome adition to the range of Atomos recorders with the smaller size. It will surely give SmallHD a run for their money.

The Ninja V has in-built modular expansion slot. Bi-directional high speed video, audio and power are available. Expansion modules will dock onto the battery slot of the unit and offer advanced features. Wonder if we will see an SDI module for this expansion slot later.

The Ninja V is already available for preorder.
